A busy little week....

This past week we had several important things happen. Our natural gas was hooked up by PG&E (excellent service) , our water and our sewer connections were hooked up by the City of Sacramento (It was truly amazing to see how many trucks and men they send to do this) and most importantly, after failing our temporary electrical panel inspection THREE times, on the fourth time we finally passed it and were able to call SMUD to ask them to pull the electical service to our panel. They told us it would take 10-13 days, it actually took 4.....Who knew that calling them 5 times and crying on the phone would be so effective.....

Other progress:

HVAC - The boiler is mounted in the garage and there is copper piping going all over out there. The air handler up in the 3rd floor is starting to be reconnected, several of the ducts had to be cut during the installation of the insulation and wallboard. This system should be done by the end of the week, of course, they have said that each of the past two weeks.

Stucco - Finally, after 4 months of scaffolding, the stucco is done.....They will come back this week and fix a few minor problems.

Tile - We have located a tile installer to put in the tile, he's going to do it the week of Feb 20th.

Floors - We had a nasty weekend of floor scrubbing.....the acid staining from last weekend was OK, but not great, we tried to fix it, the fix was worse than the original, it is on hold for a couple of weeks.

Coming up This week -

All window glass on the West, North, and East side will be replaced due to a screw up by the distributor.
The HVAC system should finish up.
The stucco should be completely done.
The concrete bench in the living room should be poured on Monday.
The SureWest fiber optic line will be installed on Tuesday(TV/Internet/Phone)
The alarm system will be installed on Wednesday

Mike - Just think what sweet dreams you'll have when it's all done - then I'll bring some Arugula seeds and you can start a new landscape :-) Looks absolutely fantastic. xo CathiU

Disaster averted....One step closer

Yesterday the City Utilities Dept. sent out the guy that is Mr. Sewer for all of East Sac....He had an old map of our part of town that showed the water and sewer lines running diagonally across our lot!!! After one quick look at the manhole in the front of the lot and the manhole in the alley, it was easy to see that the sewer line ran parallel and well within the 20 foot easement....excellent, but what about water? Today the Utilities Department sent out the guy that is Mr. Water for all of East Sac...he had one of those retro 1970's-esq Fu Man Chu mustaches, not that I noticed.... Anyway, he brought all sorts of fancy pipe detection equipment and in no time at all he found the water pipe....It was also well within the easement and does not run under house site....phew... Pat at the City Utilities Department just called, she had that perky and cheerful voice that most people get when they can tell you that a problem has been averted, she used that voice when she told me

Walk on by....

At long last our front steps and sidewalk are done... We also replaced half of the sidewalk in front of our old house next door. The city had flagged it for replacement due to tree root damage(at our expense of course - thanks to Proposition 13) six months ago. We worked with the new homeowners to repair their landscape and now we both have great looking sidewalks.

Stepping Out!

This picture shows the guys from Excel Concrete(highly recommended for both foundations and flat work) smoothing the concrete at our front door stoop....Down the side of the house you can see three of the other four additional sets of forms that they filled with concrete today..The house has a total of 5 exterior doors and one roll up garage door...All of them now have concrete steps with salt textured finish....We have a front entrance garden planned that will incorporate a concrete wall and more concrete work.....If the city makes us put in a sidewalk to pass final inspection I guess Mike will be laying down temporary pavers next weekend....
