Another productive weekend

Our subcontractors had a slow couple of days this past week but we managed to make a lot of progress on Saturday and Sunday...

The big news is that the shingles are on the roof....

On Saturday, Jeff's brother Scott finished installing the door frames and the sliding door into the master bathoom.

The final 2 soffits have been installed....

The light grate on the 3 floor stair landing has been installed.....

The power and control lines to the skylights have been pulled....

The power line to the window solar screens have been installed....

The house is approximately 80% covered with white foam, stucco wire will start late this week...

The piping to the solar water heater is almost done...the plumber has had a few problems with his soldering welds....

We drove to IKEA in Emeryville on Sunday night to pick up more of the cabinets and closet units for the new house....Most of it will be shipped direct from their warehouse..

The insulation starts on Monday this week and should be done by Thursday....We are having 5 Star Insulation install soy based polyurethane foam in the ceiling of the 3rd floor and cellulose insulation (recycled newspapers impregnated with Borate) sprayed into the exterior wall cavities.... Out of the gutter and into the cold..

Although the stucco guys completed their job a couple of weeks ago, some minor cracks developed in 3 areas and they have come back to patch them up..... Having the scaffold up for the stucco guys allowed our gutter guy to hang the final piece.... On Wednesday of this week the guys from Airsmiths installed the air conditioning condenser...If you're wondering if that is the American Standard Allegiance 14 Super Efficiency Condenser, you would be right! It is made in Texas in the same factory that Trane air conditioners are made at. http://www.americanstandardair.com/Products.asp?Section=homeOwners&ProductID=7&CategoryID=16&SuperCategoryID=1

Controlling the weather

We installed a Weathermatic irrigation system controller.  It is connected to an on-site weather station that monitors temperature, rainfall, windspeed, and humidity. As the seasons change, it automatically adjusts the station timing, very handy! UPDATE:  We had nothing but trouble with this controller and in 2016 we replaced it with a dramatically better one from Rachio. See it here: https://www.rachio.com/ Better yet, the City of Sacramento has a rebate program to replace old controllers with `smart' controllers like the Rachio, check it out here: https://www.cityofsacramento.org/Utilities/Conservation/Rebates/River-Friendly-Landscape-Rebate

Electricity is done!

Our electrical service is done! (well, except for the all important punch list that will be knocked out on Monday) The Integrity Electic guys spent several days here this week. They said we have one of the most intense switching systems they have ever seen in a residential project.......I must confess that I'm still not sure what all 12 of the switches behind the front door actually do..... Pictured is Joe from Integrity Electric putting the finishing touches on our kitchen island. The counter top guys were here on Wed to measure the counters, they were fabricated today and will be installed next Wednesday....
